Wick Issue

I love the scent of this candle. This is my first candle with this company. I read the FAQ's and wick burning tips so I did not trim my wick. I think this was a mistake, I think I should have trimmed my wick. I tried to let it burn evenly but it ended up smothering itself out. I'm hesitant to repurchase candles but I love the wax melts.
