Upgrading Bath Tub to Meet ADA Recommendations
I recently had a bad fall and I needed a little assistance in order to take a shower in my tub/bath combination. I did not get a health care assistant because the therapist recommended against it but did only out patient physical therapy. I did decide to address the bathroom issue. So I selected hardware I liked from Harney Hardware and ordered it. I bought this long bar for the back wall of the tub. We mounted it at a height about two inches below the ADA recommendation because it felt comfortable for me. At the time we also installed the vertical gab bar at the entry wall where the spigot is located. I am very pleased with this installation and have been using it for about a week and I feel much safer and can easily use the shower to shampoo and wash myself! I also bought two 24 inch grab bars. The one was meant to do the lower part of the ADA recommended installation for use with a shower seat. I did not install that at this time but will do later should I decide I need that option. Frankly, the fourth grab bar I purchased, a second 24 inch model, is excess to what I needed. I originally though that I might use it for the upper back bar incase the longer one did not serve suitable. That, of course was not the case when I installed the back grab bar. Thus, I have one in excess to my need. Overall, I really like the appearance of my tub/shower. The modern, square escutcheon is my personal taste and looks very nice in my master bath room. Thank you!
