Haven't had the chance to use them but they have a firm shell and they have plenty of slack on the velcro for thicker legs!

I was worried these wouldn't be comfortable, since I've got thicker thighs. The knee and elbow pads have a compression sleeve that you slip on and then tighten with the straps so it doesn't slide all over.
