The Dark Side of Rose
If you crave a dark "gothy" rose and patchouli scent then this will satisfy you! Yes, it gets compared to "The One That Is Contractually Obligated to Be Compared To" whenever a rose/patch perfume is mentioned. I'm referring of course to Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle, and yes, there is a sliver of similarity because rose and patchouli make a distinctive accord. No rose/patch perfume can escape the shadow of POAL because it's now become the standard to which all rose/patch perfumes are measured. Eau Capitale to me smells smooth and polished as it doesn't have any spice or powder, no raspy notes that might stick out or interrupt the sleekness. It feels like a cool, dark, glossy kind of a rose and patchouli. When I wear it I want to wear all black, slip on a pair of winklepickers and go to a nightclub in search of human blood.
