An Excellent Upgrade
Upgraded from a Marantz 5000 series and Pro-Ject Tube Box preamp for my record player (Rega Planar 6). I currently have two bookshelf speakers: Epos Epic 2. The Sphinx significantly changed my listening experience. A low volume setting gets me a wonderful sound out of my Rega. Records sound much better and with little effort. CDs sound excellent too. The Sphinx powers my spearkers in a way the Marantz couldn't. I hear more detail and a stronger lower end. My Epos have always been great for what the are: bookshelf speakers. Now, however, I hear both their abilities and limits. In other words, the Sphinx is powering them in a way that lets me hear what they are capable of and what they're not capable of, which I appreciate. My only criticism is of the remote: no power button. If there is a good reason for not including a power button on the remote, I don't know what it is. I think it shoudl have one. In the end, however, the amp was (for me) a solid choice.
