Fantastic no-frills puukko
If you’ve been searching for a classic and practical puukko that’s authentically Finnish, here it is. I was looking for a puukko with very few requirements. Barrel handle, blade under 3.5”, no guard. It’s been surprisingly hard to find such a simple puukko. Either you’d purchase a classic Mora or go for something much, much more expensive to fit those parameters. The barrel handle is IMO a superior handle shape for any sort of knife to see extensive use. It is versatile and comfortable and can be held in a wide variety of positions. Finger choils, guards, and jimping just hurts your hands and get in the way when you’re trying to use your knife for carving or food prep. The shorter blade length offers a lot more control, especially when you extend your index finger along the spine of the blade when doing messy skinning or gutting chores. This Järvenpää utility puukko #8224 ticks all my boxes. The fit and finish is very well done for this price point. No gap at all between handle, bolster, and blade. The primary grind is very well done and the secondary microbevel has a bit of waver in it, but honestly this will smooth out once I start using and sharpening the knife more. Additionally the spine was left a bit rough from the stamping/forging process. These are all very small issues to be expected of this price point. This is a user and not a looker. The sheath is great, very very thick leather and plain, understated design. The handle is incredibly comfortable and rugged, being of a coarsely sanded oil finish. I have used this for little whittling on basswood and kitchen duties and it performs very very well. I think this is one of the most underrated puukko models out there personally. You’d be purchasing a real treasure that would keep for several lifetimes. I only ever get my Nordic knives from Ragweed, the service is always excellent. Highly recommended, both the knife and the store here.

Great knife, better service
My wife purchased this knife for me as part of my wood carving arsenal. Not only is it a good carver, but handles basic kitchen chores as well, I live in interior alaska and each tool needs to be multi purpose, this one fits the bill. Coupled with the service offered by Redbeard at ragweed forge its a win win.
