Surprising Quality

I've had a few plastic budget pens. Some of them still work, others will need replacing. The Prefounte is one I do not anticipate replacing. Among Kakuno's, Petit's, Preppy's (bit of a theme here), and other sub-$15 pens on the market, I was skeptical of the small nib in Japanese Fine and thin plastic construction that squeaked every now and then. But that's the Prefounte's charm. The nib is unusually springy and writes well with a tired hand. The full body design is a great middle ground between the fullest pens and compact full-sizers. Do I recommend it for long writing sessions? No. Would I prefer a Lamy Safari or Pilot Metro? Yes. Is this pen competitive in its class? Absolutely. Realize when you write with this pen: you're writing to get the job done. No fancy heavy-weight paper, no over-the-top inks, just you and the next shopping list or note-taking scramble.
