I don't understand these

I bought them because I thought they would be good for cooler weather. The one place I think most people get cold feet is in the toes, and the toes on these are very thin, much thinner than the rest of the sock. I did bike in them and they were nice, but it was only about 50F. My toes did not get cold. I will try again on a day that is a little colder.
