I bought this pair of lightweight snowshoes for my trip to Nepal this month since the Northern Lites are the most compact and lightest snowshoes, much easier to carry on week-long trekking trip.
This weekend I tested them for an overnight snow camping in Yosemite National Park. From Badger Pass to Glacier Point, I worn them on compact hard snow for 22 miles in two days. Overall I like them. They were so light that it felt no extra weight on my feet. However at the end of the trip the ball on my left foot started to hurt. I had done this trip many times in the past with MSR snowshoes and no issue of my feet with them. I had similar pain with another brand of snowshoes made of the same materials and with similar design but larger and heavier. I suspect the lack of stiffness of this type of materials was the cause of the pain.
I think the Northern Lites is a good choice for shorter distances wearing and looking forward to use them in Nepal’s high mountains.

We have had very little snow during a dry, warm winter but these snowshoes have kept me going on less than ideal snow. They are a joy to use!

This is my 5th pair of Northern Lites Snowshoes. I love them and have shared them with friends, especially recommending these to my friends participating in the Iditarod Trail Invitational, the 150, 350 or 1000 mile races in the frozen wilderness in Alaska. I am no longer racing but still enjoy my adventures in snowshoes in the wilds of the Alaska. I can wear snowshoes year round in some places here!!
