These are really nice carving tools, once you get them properly ground and honed. And that’s the catch; they really do need a lot of work before they are usable. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Those high end tools that are razor sharp right out of the box wont stay razor sharp long if you don’t know what you are doing. If you aren’t confident with your sharpening skills, you are wasting your money on those expensive tools. In that regard, Schaaf makes great practice tools. Get to know your way around a bench grinder and whetstone with these, and you will have a really nice set of tools when you are done, and the know how to keep them sharp.

A really nice set of tools for a beginner carver like me. Nice heavy feel. Will get a lot of practice using all the different edges.
