First principles biblical thinker. Influential and frequently edgy.
For the serious academic evangelical, Dr Robinson cannot be dismissed too quickly. His influence is extensive and his grounds substantial. His first-principles approach is refreshing and not difficult to read provided you are a details person. However, his new ideas can be paradigm shifts that are difficult to fit into one's system of thought, and having unpredictable implications. He requires his reader to re-thinking everything the Bible says from the ground up, without piggybacking on the shoulders of prior theologians. He is thorough, and biblically grounded, yet in his lifetime he did not fully integrate his thought theologically which makes it a little risky. Consequently, we are only beginning to understand its eventual but significant effects. This volume presents his foundational and idiosyncratic (quirky) thoughts on the nature of the biblical Israel, the church, church government, and faith. He has been very influential in Sydney Anglicanism and beyond. His biblical-theological influence has been positive, while his ecclesiological influence has produced both good and bad -- some unintentionally.
