Great material and fit

The slub 14 oz is a nice heavy weight canvas that's perfect for a denim substitute. The fit on these slim fit chinos is a lower rise than most Freenote denim cuts and the inseam is also a few inches shorter (so keep an eye on that by checking the sizing measurements.) Waist is the same as the denim and the leg is slightly wider than the Rios. I've liked these so much I have them in two colors and plan to get two more colors.

True to size, these heavy duty trousers combine a relaxed, super comfortable fit with extremely high quality and detailing. There is something very special about this fabric, the feel when wearing them straight out of the box is akin heavily worn-in duck, but with a far more luxurious brushed feel to the exterior, and a lot less rigidity, pretty amazing for such a heavy duty textile. They are also really cosy in cold weather and are fairly windproof. The rise is lower than I expected, but they hang off my hips very comfortably, without any sag at the rear, and are very flattering with a tucked-in shirt. I think a higher rise might actually be less comfortable with a fabric this weighty. I especially like the buttoned rear pocket, very useful because I keep my credit and ID cards there in a slim case. The colour is amazing and unusual, a rich burnt umber that seems to go with everything, without looking like anything else I own. I had originally sized down, Andrew and the team were extremely helpful in handling the return, and gave me a heads up when they came back in stock. The overall cut is perfect, classic and allowing for tons of movement without being baggy anywhere, these really are grail work pants that do feel like they will last forever. I can understand why these have remained a staple, they are by far the best heavy duty trousers I've worn, and look as good as they feel. The only thing I regret is not having bought a pair sooner!

I sent Freenote an email concerning sizing on these pants, and I got a phone call within 15 minutes from Andrew. Ended up with the perfect, and these are amazing pants. Their sizing chart is spot on, I am just between sizes. Don’t hesitate.
