As an avid outdoorsman, I was shopping around for the one jacket that can do it all. Something thick enough to withstand the cool mornings or light rains. Something lightweight for the warmer days during spring and fall seasons. Something that can be dressed up for a nice evening with family and friends; or dressed down for a good day’s work out in the field or inside the shop. I had already convinced myself there’s a slim chance all the boxes will be checked. I came across Kevin’s Catalog and stumbled upon the Plantation Jacket. There wasn’t much information or any reviews, but I figured I would give it a try. I purchased one in British Khaki after talking with Ashley in customer service who answered all my questions in a timely manner. She was excellent. Upon receiving the jacket, I was impressed with several things. It is lightweight, the fabric is super comfortable, the stitching appears solid, and the color is a classic. Perfect for the casual trip or formal gathering. However, the best part is its versatility. There are two side entry pockets that support the hands rather pleasantly and two front pockets with rugged lining (maybe even “waterproof”?) to hold shells for upland game or whatever suits the wearer. The jacket offers both a zipper that can open from top-down or down-top, and snap buttons for added protection. On the side of the jacket there are snap buttons that you can pop to increase arm movement and accessibility to pant pockets. The jacket has ample room for layers. The pricing is competitive, and I believe Kevin’s Catalog stands behind their products. Doing business for over 40 years should tell you something. Time will tell but I am confident I made a purchase that will last a long time. It checks the boxes. I think Kevin and his team hit the mark with the jacket’s quality and craftsmanship. Kudos! My only concern about the jacket is I do not live close enough to try on in-person. I was in between two sizes so I decided to play safe and size up. Hopefully I made the right call. The return policy isn’t cheap. Do your homework but you won’t be disappointed with the product. I enjoy supporting local family-owned businesses and doing my part to keep them around. Kevin’s is one of those places.
