Fashion Photography: Model Testing with Agencies

This is my second purchase on Pro-Edu. The first was the retouching series by Michael W. Full disclosure; I have also bought other course such as the Retouching Series by Pratik Naik and the Fashion series by Lara Jade on competitor websites. The posing part : It isn’t great… Compared to what Lindsey Adler gives for free on youtube, this course is very weak in the posing. As a young photographer that plans to do test for young and inexperienced models, I expected a lot of detail advices. For instance: “What standard poses to use for POLAS ?” could have been a good 15 minute video. Reviewing POLAS from pro models and commenting on what’s good and what’s not good and why would have not been too difficult to do. It could have given great advices to young photographers that could provide POLAS to agencies. You could find better advices on youtube. The editing part : I understand that test shoots are lightly edited unlike editorials or beauty shoots but this part was also very weak. I also understand that she is a photographer and not a retoucher but It really lacked depths and techniques. The Agency part : This is a part that I was really looking for. “How to talk to agencies” or “How agencies can help photographers” or simply having a few interviews with bookers to understand what they are looking for in a photographer to allow them to do tests… The commercial/high fashion models : This is a good part but not exploited enough. Understanding the difference between commercial and editorial models is important. Commercial models will not pose the same way as editorials and this wasn’t exploited in depth… To sum up, you are not buying this course to learn “posing” or “editing”. All in all, this course doesn’t go “in depth” enough. I paid $60 for this course (3 hours) and I paid $ 100 for Lara Jade’s Fashion series (10+ hours long). So in dollars per hours this course is more expensive and Lara’s was more interesting overhaul. Here is an idea : I would pay $30 / months to watch Micheal W. edit 4 pictures (2 beauty and 2 fashion ) in depth per month. All you need is a software like FRAPS to record the screen and the microphone. No need for editing what so ever. I want an A to Z retouching course focused on pictures that you would see on cover of VOGUE or HARPER’s but have the techniques explained just like Micheal did in his course. The production cost would be low and you could have guest photographers as well to take part in the series. Like 1 photographer per month editing 2 of his pictures and teaching his editing style… I’d pay big dollars for that.

You learn what’s needs to be learned without extra fluff that can confuse some viewers. You will walk away more knowledgeable, more confident in your ability to work with an agency and motivated to reach the next level.
