I have a friend that referred me to you. I bought this kit based off of his experience and he loves it. I live in Texas and my fly gear is in Idaho. I’ll leave a review when I have a chance to use it this Fall.

I took up Spey casting 5 years ago and it has taken me about that time frame to feel competent about two handed Spey casting both Scandi and Skagit. That’s practicing 3 times a week. Slow learner😂. But as your Ben Paul says casting is a hobby in of itself. Single hand Spey intrigued me after watching a number of you tube videos and decided to go with your Commando Smooth. It’s been fun trying different tips and leaders on the line. I like the shorter head on the single hand rod. I’m casting 200 grains on a 10 ft Echo Stillwater 5 wt. The learning curve has been exponentially faster. For single hand Spey. What I learned is to make adjustments instead of trying to make a technique work. The casts with the commando smooth are nothing short of amazing. The line flies with tight loops and takes very little power. Just like two handed casting it’s all about technique. The suppleness of the running line is great along with the difference in color between the head and running line make it easy to see how much running line is hanging out of the tip. I want to take this technique to the Amazon but finding a warm water Skagit has been frustrating. I finally approached a custom line maker for a 9 wt Skagit for warmwater. The Amazon is a lot of casting for peacocks. The difference from fishing for northern pike is the flies used in the Amazon are very light EP style flies so I believe I can get by with a single hand rod. I’m hoping this experiment works as casting in the heat of the Amazon wears me out.
