As the old saying goes, if you don't have a good foundation then it doesn't matter what you build. These stands are made to do the job - look no further. They are heavy and tall enough to provide superior stability, while being light enough for someone to easily pick up and move; they have a nice flat broad base that rests seamlessly on the floor so there is nothing to trip over; and the pipe can accommodate birch poles or 3/4" x 2 3/4" wood (you can retrofit other material to fit inside the 3" opening with a little creativity if you want to build a different set up) We are building an Arbor for an indoor wedding ceremony. I was looking for something lighter than 2x4's or poles that we gals could easily set up and breakdown on stage and transport to and from the venue in a sub or pickup...im using the 3/4"x 2-3/4" x 8' s with a little modification on the bottom for a snug fit. We will put in some bolts and wing nuts to make it a 3 piece set up. My plan is to attach a lightweight armature - like chicken wire or whatever else I come across - and then fill it in with flowers. I am so happy I bought these stands because I will have complete peace of mind my wedding arch will be stable! Most important!!
