Spin the knob to release the base a little and then insert-n-slide to lock in the base. Tighten the thumb knob to lock the base to the track.

Beautiful in its simplicity
What a very clever design. The adapter I bought to allowed me to mount my iPad to the ceiling of my van fit perfectly and is very secure. It's also got a beautiful, industrial simplicity to it which I really like. I'd recommend this to anyone.
