They work just the way I wanted . . .
First off, this Rainbow is the only source I found for these diffraction gratings outside of China.
But more important: It produced the effect that I was hoping for - Which this photo shows.

Diffraction slides
We use the 500 line gratings in a spectroscopy demonstration with high voltage gas tubes. 500 mm is the perfect resolution for our demos. Higher resolution does not work for our demo.

Diffraction Gratings for education outreach
I've been using these for 20 years and like these 500 lp/mm the best. I'll be getting many more when the funds come through.
