The Dead Pen for Adobe Illustrator

Retro Supply never fails!

I have been looking for a brush kit that has the characteristics of a genuine pen stroke that also doesn’t make the line look choppy when applied. Other free or purchased brush kits never really did what I wanted them to and often made my life more difficult trying to correct bad brush lines instead of easier. I’ve used retro in the past and when this came across my radar, I was so excited— the war for achieving the perfect vector illustrations is over! Always so impressed with retro supply co products. Worth every penny.

Good, usable, a bit underwhelmed

The ink pens and line texture pens (the dots and squiggles) are all good and totally usable. I was pretty underwhelmed with the stipple and texture pattern pens. They're container-based (or maybe just for contained use) so you get these odd edges to your strokes that make them hard to customize. Unless I'm only drawing within a clipping mask, I'd end up with these cut off patterns that I'd have to go back in and clean up manually. With how these are built, I also can't really layer some of the patterns without them looking clunky or just quickly becoming too dense. Overall, the pack is good and I'll be using most of it. I probably should have shopped around a little more, now that I've used it and no more about my own preferences.
