Avonlea Takes a Mature Turn

I appreciated being able to purchase these DVDs straight from the source; they look excellent remastered and I relived my childhood while watching them! But I feel that this season is really when Avonlea turns away from being constantly enjoyable in a fun, lighthearted manner to something more serious and adult. There are a lot more episodes with a darker flavor (Hetty being depressed and feeling irrelevant and almost dying on her birthday; Felicity and Gus breaking up; Cecily coming down with TB) that simply aren't as much of an "escape" as the earlier seasons with their endless humorous shenanigans. Some of the episodes are quite sad. All of them are enjoyable, but I have more fun with the first four seasons.
