My garage door would move less than 6 inches, inspite of programming the limits. The encoder was the reason for it and it worked fine after I replaced it with this part. Make sure you confirm with Genie which encoder is for you because obviously it depends on which motor is used on your garage door opener. Cables are included which is a plus.
