Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet is Panopticon’s 12th album and the 3rd in a loose trilogy that examines the destruction of wild lands and its intimate effect on us. Austin Lunn is peerless. The Laurentian albums focus a lot on loss. Personal loss and the tragedy of the destruction and diminishing of our woodlands, wetlands, lakes. Beautiful places that let one commune with nature. On Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet, Lunn continues to examine the extent to which who we are is deeply tied to our experience and environment. Furthermore what it means to us experience the degradation of our environment. Something akin to solastalgia i.e. existential distress caused by negative environment change. Amazing production and instrumentation using Appalachian folk and orchestral strings supporting some of THE most soaring black metal. Nobody elicits the specific emotions Panopticon does in me. Favorite tracks: Woodland Caribou, The White Cedars, A Culture of Wilderness.
