Thermometer stopped working after one use

I didn't need a new tow-float but I was tempted by these, partly for the cute design but also for the advertised integral thermometer. What I didn't expect to receive was a flimsy plastic insert that stopped working after one use. I was also advised by the lifeguard at the lake I swim in, that a patterned tow float isn't very visible in the water. Thankfully I had a bright coloured hat, but now aware that I can't risk using this when river swimming and will have to revert to my old/traditional brightly coloured tow float.
