Our black lab goes everywhere with us and this mat is perfect when we visit a restaurant - she lies on it very happily and simply sleeps until it is time to go home. We have not yet had to wash it but it looks as if that won't be a problem. It is light, folds up smaller than the vet bed fabric that we used to use, and it is exactly what we hoped for.
