Arkham Horror: The Card Game Core Set

Good time for a reboot

Set rotation for any card game is controversial but is necessary to draw in new players. I like how this new core set provides a fresh new starter campaign and tweaks old cards. My only gripe is you don't get a complete playset of 2 of each player card.

I still love Arkham Horror LCG

I ordered the new core set, but ended up finding one at a game store the next day. After playing through the mini campaign, I decided to give some of my buddies my other core set (instead of returning it). I haven’t had much time in the past to really dive into Arkham Horror lcg. So this is the perfect jumping off point for me, and I haven’t some nerds I can drag along with me. Super excited for what’s to come.

A Better Core Set

1 star removed solely for the Brethren of Ash campaign being underwhelming and, similar to the original Night of the Zealot, not one I plan to replay much more. In terms of the other content, all the new investigators are solid and I love the inclusion of dividers and location connection tokens that were not part of the original and revised core sets. I also really enjoyed the new standard Mythos encounter sets that will also be used in future campaigns. I think they are better designed than some of the ones from the original core sets. I would recommend this set if you plan on jumping onto the upcoming content for Arkham Horror. I think the new investigators do a good job of establishing the class identities for new players to explore if they are starting from here. If you are a long-time player who is uncertain about the upcoming content, I would wait until there is a new campaign you feel confident that you will purchase. While there are some interesting new player cards in this set there are also quite a few reprints that you likely already have. Most of the investigators are also a slight reimagining of existing investigators, so if you are not planning on incorporating the new Mythos encounter cards into previous campaigns or future ones you are getting much less value out of the set.
