Well made, high quality and warm, buy it!
This is my second Robe from Red (first was high jacked by a family member) So this is both a review and comparison to the older model. I 'm a design and research nerd, and looked at many different brands before purchasing. Red not only seemed to have the most thoughtful design, but also many high ratings too. Doesn't hurt the robe is also extremely stylish. Price may seem high, but it's evident that alot of thought and care went into designing this robe. The materials and zippers are top notch. It's a well made piece of kit. It's warm and waterproof. I've worn this in the single digits with howling winds wearing just a t-shirt and sweat pants and felt completely insulated and dry. The fleece lining is very soft and feels great against the skin, though I haven't used it after a swim yet so can't speak to if it's as effective when you are wet as was the previous model. Slight re-design of the hood is excellent, the added brim is a great addition. In the cold or a snow/rain storm you really feel protected from the elements. You will definitely appreciate the fleece lined hand pockets too. Love having an external chest pocket which perfectly fits a phone, and the internal wallet pocket is very handy. The addition of the perforations along the bottom interior of the coat is also a smart choice. BOTTOM LINE: If you need a change robe, get this one, it does what it's supposed and looks great too! On sizing, I've tried both the M and L. I'm 6'1 and not skinny, the L is plenty roomy and great if you plan on wearing it to change at the beach. You get plenty of coverage. I've also worn the M and it fits more like a long coat, it's not as roomy as the L, but there is still a decent amount of room. So if you just want it as a coat, up to 6'1" the M will work. A few minor quibbles (probably more for the design team and all are YMMV): For me the jury is still out on the switch from velcro on the cuffs to having extra fabric that you can fold/adjust to length. While the velcro was bulky, I liked being able to cinch down the wrists. But others may feel different. For me the fleece lining does move around, and it can takes some adjustments to seat it flat so it's not bunched up at the neck and especially at the wrists. Once you do it's extremely comfortable. The magnet closure on the side pockets is a great touch, but compared to my previous model they don't seem as strong, so on this one it takes a bit more to line them up so the pockets stay closed. No idea if this has to do with weaker magnets or just the contrasting fabric around the pockets which isn't as stiff as that on the main body (that fabric seemed to be stiffer on my older model). Wish there was something securing the external chest pocket in place internally because it tends to swing towards the middle of the chest after taking the robe off and putting it back on. Meaning I have to orient the pocket correctly in order to slide anything or out of the pocket.
