PARALIES by Joshua Quinn. A superb book. Worth every penny. Well-written with a great sense of humour and a keen eye for the quirks of human behaviour and their use in conjuring great magic. The spelling here tells you I'm English, which underpins my sole criticism. A few of the methods in this book rely on the answers to sequences of simple questions: 'Think of an orange vegetable.... '. You know the sort of thing. This is fine, but be aware that this book was written by an American and a respectable number of the questions in play involve a 'baked-in' familiarity with the names of US Presidents / US States / US Sports / US Cars etc. Asked to think of a sport beginning with the letter B , my first thought is NOT baseball. This is not a major gripe. Let's call it an irritation. It does not detract from the cleverness of the thinking, but it does complicate things c/o implementing the resulting methodology for a non-US citizen. That aside, a brilliant book. The chapter on equivoque is worth the price all by itself. I'll be first in the queue for Joshua's next book.

Excellent book! I was specially looking for one effect in the book – but there was so much more and really useful. Additionally, Joshua is a real master of the language.
