Bad Customer Service and Questionable Product Quality

I recently purchased a bag of Freeze-Dried Turkey; however, neither my cat nor my dog would eat it. Upon closer inspection, I noticed the product smelled strongly of plastic/chemicals. After conducting some research, I became concerned that the product may have gone bad, so I threw it away to be safe and contacted King Lou to request a refund. As a side note, I have purchased other King Lou products in the past—including many of their treats (almost every type by now) and the freeze-dried lamb and beef —and have not previously encountered any issues. For context, I placed this order in March, meaning the product had only been in my possession for about a month. I was surprised when the customer service representative informed me that I was only eligible for a one-time refund of $25.00 for a “treat pouch.” I clarified that this was not a treat pouch, but a bag of raw food, and that I was requesting a refund for the actual amount paid—$38.50 after a discount (with a regular price of $50.00). The representative reiterated this policy in a manner I found dismissive, despite the fact that it appears to apply specifically to a “treat pouch” and not to the raw food product I purchased. This response felt misaligned with the situation and did not adequately address my concern. More broadly, this experience reflects poorly on the company’s customer service. When there are potential quality issues with a product, offering a partial refund tied to a lower-cost item does not seem appropriate or customer-focused. At a minimum, I would have expected a resolution that reflects the actual amount paid. At this point, it is more about the principle than anything else. I'm annoyed to be out $38.50 but I'd rather not risk feeding my pet something that may cause larger issues down the road. I am also disappointed both in the quality of the food and in how this issue was handled. This experience has led me to reconsider whether I will purchase from this company again in the future.

New Offerings

King Lou has added turkey tendons and minnows to the line-up of products available for purchase. My pups LOVE both of these products. I add minnows to their breakfast bowls as a topper for added nutrition. The turkey tendons are a high value treat that are a favorite for all 4 of my dogs. I will definitely be ordering more of these!
