Does what I wanted

I wanted a simple view of my hitch for hooking up trailers quicker without anything too awkward. The handle trim easily swapped in with a good fit and look. The camera fitment leaves a little to be desired. It was clearly designed for a backup view, not your hitch. Since there's no way to see your hitch and see behind you at the same time with this camera, it's one or the other. I would like to see a dual camera option so you could point one up and one down, since the mirror supports 2 anyway. Maybe a fish eye camera would do it as well, if you wanted something else for the second camera. After swiveling the camera base I was able to eventually point it down far enough to see my hitch clearly. But this resulted in it being upside down so the adjustment screw was pointing up instead of down. Not sure if this will be a moisture intrusion problem, but probably not. Would be nice if the trim piece had a little more of a molded hood so the camera seemed more protected as well as visually more factory looking, instead of being this weird little radio shack camera sticking out. The wiring splice for the camera power I wish was at the tailgate side of the premade cable instead of the engine bay. It would be easier to tap into the reverse light line in the back of the truck where there's little other wiring. In the engine bay it's a huge cluster of wires to dig through to find the reverse light wire for the camera. I ended up just wiring it to a key on source for the time being because I wanted to monitor the hitch in forward motion as I am testing other things. Eventually I'll probably pull the reverse light power from the transmission where it's pretty easy to isolate, but I'll have to extend it up into the engine bay to reach where I had to run the camera line to connect to the mirror in the cab. Maybe it's just me, but it sure seems like having the camera power wire splice out back at the tailgate side would be simpler (and less wiring), but it's all packaged up in a sealed cable at that end so you have no choice. Also, this is the smallest gauge wire possible, literally. I'm impressed how low the power draw is for this camera and mirror, but goodness. I've never used wire this low gauge in a vehicle. It sure seems like it could have been a size thicker. But I'm glad the kit isn't more expensive because it seemed like a decent amount to spend for what's a relatively simple product once you have the 3d print model of the tailgate trim. I'm glad I got it because it's doing what I need from it. I got it installed on my work truck with minimal fiddling. If I was building a restomod I'd maybe reconsider.

Good product for an old truck.

This makes it possible to install a newer feature in an old truck, as long as you’ve got a stereo deck with a screen of course. So that’s nice. It fits well, it’s relatively easy for someone to install if they know what they’re doing. The adjustable feature is nice, but if it’s pointing at my hitch I can’t see much else, and if it points behind me I can’t see my hitch. This could be just because of my stereo screen. The camera is installed in an OEM tailgate handle bezel, which is a difficult part to obtain for these trucks. That’s nice because it fits perfect. The picture quality is decent but not excellent, not real clear in the dark. In my case shipping took longer than I would’ve liked. Not complaining, just stating facts. Overall it’s a nice product. I’d recommend it over any other option for a second Gen. Ram.
