Sneakers and T shirts: Comparison from years ago to now

Sadly, in my opinion, the quality of these sneakers - and a T shirt purchased a couple of years ago - in no matches that of 10 years ago. Then, both were brilliant in every aspect and, working in a Fair Trade not-for-profit shop, dead easy to sell. Now I find the sneaker fabric rough and ungiving, and the T shirt fabric thin and can't possibly last the 8-10 years that my red and black T shirt did.
