It is a very nice holder, nicest I’ve used. Heavy, flat, wont slide around, stone is easy to put in/out, very pretty. Is there cheaper ways? Yep. However it’s a lifetime purchase, and sharpening makes such a massive quality of life difference that why not splurge even on the stone holder

Fantastic Sharpening Stone Holder

I recently purchased the Intermediate sharpening stone / equipment bundle, and it was worth every penny! This base seems a bit pricy when you are just looking at it - it is also worth every penny. It is a nice rubberized case with a very heavy glass insert. The mass keeps the base nicely secure, especially if you are using it with the pond or a sharpening station board with stops. Very important piece of equipment to be able to work with those wonderful Shapton stones!!!

100 bucks?

OK, it does when it’s supposed to do very well. But there a number of ways to make a holder that are a lot less than 100 bucks. The 16,000 stone is absolutely awesome, and my sharpness has greatly improved with a micro bevel polish at that level.
