Paper was really glossy and it smeared no matter what style of pen I was using

Paper is smooth, and the a5 size is perfect. Not only is it affordable for good quality paper, but it’s a better size. I gave up on carrying a hard bound notebook all the time, because I never once needed to have access to 200+ pages with me in a single outing. I now prefer to keep my bag/backpack/what I’m carrying light. This would be a great option too for someone that wants to keep different notebooks for different subjects or projects.

Very good, but not the best overall.

Nice, inexpensive, but not the smoothest, and it bleeds through some. It makes a nice practical notebook for work and such, but for times when you want the very best, although it's good, it's just not the greatest.
