Best unruled *100 sheet* composition book in 2026

I used to use the Roaring Spring unruled composition book from 25 years ago. It was usable with an EF fountain pen, but their recent product uses much inferior paper which bleeds through even with an EF nib and Noodler's black. I tried Bazic unruled composition, 100 sheets, and the paper is roughly equivalent to what Roaring Spring used to use. I can write with an EF fountain pen with Noodler's black, gel ink ballpoint, etc. Medium and wetter nibs will bleed. The paper writes well with pencils, and my erasers erases clean without damaging the paper. The paper is also very bright white (with the optical brightener - bluish hue is visible depending on the light source). The notebook scans well and clearly using a flatbed scanner. Compared to Roaring Spring, the cover is flimsier, but that's tolerable. Also, Bazic uses inferior paper in the ruled version and sells for one dollar less. This is by no means anything Midori MD or Tomoe River or anything like that, but it's definitely a good find for a cheap notebook for daily work notes. A notebook with 100 sheets holds much more than ones that use thicker paper, and that's useful for my daily notes. I'll definitely reorder this notebook in bulk as long as the paper stock remains good.

Surprisingly good paper

I use fountain pens exclusively, so I am pleased with the ability to write in this comp book and little to no bleed through and show through.

Fountain pen-friendly notebook

Terrific cost-effective alternative to other fountain pen-friendly papers. Minor bleed-through on the other side, but nothing obtrusive.
