Mistakes Were Made Apology Card

Everybody Needs This

I like these cards so much that I had one matted and framed for my twin brother, who is, like me, a writing teacher. He teaches writing mainly to NOAA fisheries scientists. “Mistakes were made” is, for us, an iconic instance of passive voice that can be useful or obfuscating, depending on the situation. Also, there’s a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon in which Calvin is trying to sell a “Kick in the Pants.” When Hobbes asks him, “How’s business,” Calvin notes that it’s not so good, but he doens’t know why, because “Everybody needs what I’m selling.” It’s the same with this card—no matter where you go, mistakes are being made (see what I did there?) every day. So, everybody needs what you’re selling, especially this card. Keep the great stuff coming!

My card was perfect; the quality of the card, the nature of the artistry, were beyond my expectations.

I think I must’ve got the last one. So I matted and framed it. A real piece of art! But now I need more, to use as actual greeting cards. I feel like Dr. Jekyll waiting in his surgery for more of the formula he needs to avoid changing to Mr. Hyde again. Or like Calvin (of the Calvin and Hobbes cartoons), when he set up a stand to sell a “Kick in the Pants.” He complains to Hobbes that business is slow, but he doesn’t know why, because “Everyone needs what I’m selling.” Everyone also needs this card!
