Why does it smell so much of fragrance?

Hi there, I am sure the hair clip itself is probably fine but it smells so strongly of toxic fragrance that I am unable to even try it and have had to put it in a different room. I am very sensitive to smells and can not wear fragrance (as they by definition are toxic and my system can not cope) but I do not understand why a hairlip needs to be smothered in fragrance? Am I able to return it and get one without any fragrance?
