Matcha von Yamamasa Koyamaen

An outstanding matcha. This is the brightest, most vibrant green matcha I’ve tried so far. The aroma is wonderful, with subtle nutty notes that reminded me of almonds. The flavor is incredibly smooth, naturally sweet, and free from the strong grassy, seaweed-like, or fishy notes that many people associate with matcha. Because of that, I think it’s an excellent choice for beginners or anyone who prefers a delicate, approachable matcha. It’s also delicious prepared traditionally with water or with just a small amount of milk. If you like a very mild matcha latte, you’ll love it. However, I found that its delicate flavor gets overpowered by larger amounts of milk, so if you’re looking for a stronger latte experience, you may prefer a more robust cultivar. Even so, the quality is exceptional, and I’ll definitely continue exploring other Yamamasa Koyamaen cultivars, such as Saemidori or Okumidori, in search of a little more intensity.
