Best travel guitar I’ve ever owned
I am really impressed with my Pioneer ER. The quality of the build is flawless and the intonation is clear and bright and is right up there with full size acoustics. I have relatively small hands so the flexibility of having both 43mm and 45mm nut widths was a welcome bonus for me. Another very satisfying aspect is that this guitar holds its tuning really well, I only have to make minor adjustments as the strings naturally stretch. I set the action really low because that is my preference for finger style playing. Adjusting the action was really quite easy but you must have the correct Furch adjustment tool to do the job. The tool isn’t cheap but you can’t manage without it. Also the CNR Active system helps ensure the action consistency. The Pioneer guitar and the tool together is a bit more expensive than the Taylor GS Mini for example, but the Pioneer uses all solid woods for the guitar body, not laminates like other travel guitars feature. I am happy to recommend the Pioneer ER unreservedly to anyone looking for quality over economy.

Fantastic guitar
Excellent build and materials, and the possibility of personally modifying the setup through the CNR system is, frankly, a real bonus. Beautiful sound and resonance. Excellent instrument for both beginners and advanced players.

Great but not quite perfect
Above all this is a great sounding guitar even without the caveat 'for its size'. I bought the guitar online from the Furch shop as I wanted a 43mm nut width and few stores in the UK stock this size. The short scale length generally makes it easier to play apart from high positions when some chord shapes can be a little cramped (even with small hands) but this is a fact of life with all short scale guitars. The string height appears about standard but you can easily adjust this with the special tool to optimise it for your needs, and I probably will. The only imperfection was the strong figuring of the top surface wood whereas I think most buyers would prefer a clean plain top. However, I bought this with an included L.R. Baggs pickup for the same price as a pure acoustic model. Initially, I thought that this was a mistake at the shop but now realise that this was probably compensation for a less than ideal top. Fair deal? You decide, but I chose to keep it.
