First off, I’ve been buying my riding gear from FlyingSolo/Peak Moto for awhile now and the customer service is nothing short of excellent. Amanda and her team do an amazing job. Secondly, the jacket: this is a six month review after purchasing the Sands 5 in December. I had a short break at the time to go on a solo ride. It’s Melbourne, so naturally the first week of summer meant snow on the Great Alpine road and by the time I came home, 4 days later, it was 48 Celsius instead. I had all of my layers in - all of my layers off - and was in a state of perpetual confusion. The jacket is fantastic for touring. I love that the raincoat, thermal, and shell are all complete pieces of clothing that can be worn separately or together. No exposed seams. All with their own zippers. No excess baggage. It’s well ventilated, warm, waterproof and comfortable. It’s been worn nonstop on my daily commute to work and I would highly recommend it. The only fault is the wrist/forearm zipper on the right arm. When all layers are in, this has a tendency to do a slow creep down the forearm. If travelling at highway speeds, the material peels away from the forearm like a banana peel. I tend to keep an eye on it and readjust every hour or so. It’s the only real criticism on an otherwise excellent jacket. I’m not sure if this fault is unique to mine or if it’s common in the Sands 5, but it should be a consideration if purchasing. All other zippers in the jacket are functional.
